The Genesis of Druid Hill Park

The park began as a plantation/estate that included at least 150 years of enslaved labor. Baltimore purchased it from Lloyd Nicholas Rogers and transformed it into a park in 1860 at a time when the country was in a "public parks movement". Unfortunately, historians and park enthusiasts have "whitewashed" and sanitized the true history of the park. In fact, Blacks contributions to the park is second to none!
